Mulberry Cancer Support Holds 25th Anniversary Open Day

Mulberry Cancer Support welcomed the Mayors of Hounslow and Richmond upon Thames, alongside clients, supporters and members of the local community, to a special Open Day on Tuesday 8 September as part of the charity’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
Held at the charity’s Centre in Isleworth, the event offered visitors the chance to see first-hand the free support available to people affected by cancer, as well as their families and carers. Guests toured the building, met staff and volunteers, and took part in taster sessions showcasing some of the therapies and activities offered by the charity, including qigong, watercolour painting, aromatherapy and acupuncture.
The Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Ranjit Gill, spent time speaking with clients, staff and volunteers and learning more about the practical, emotional and wellbeing support Mulberry Cancer Support provides. He praised the charity’s work, saying his first visit had left him “totally impressed and amazed” by the services on offer and the kindness of everyone he met. He said he was particularly moved by the support offered to people during “difficult and emotional times,” adding that it “takes a very special person” to listen and provide comfort. He described the Centre as “simply wonderful” and confirmed he would be taking part in a fundraising walk next year, as well as attending the charity’s anniversary ball.
Mulberry Cancer Support also welcomed the Mayor of Richmond upon Thames, Councillor Nancy Baldwin, who met clients, staff and volunteers and learned more about the charity’s impact on local people and families affected by cancer.
Chief Executive Raj Athwal said the Open Day was a highlight of the charity’s anniversary year. He said the event was a chance to welcome people into the Centre and show them the breadth of support available. As the charity marks 25 years, he emphasised the importance of ensuring even more people across local communities know that Mulberry Cancer Support’s services are available to them, free of charge.
The Open Day is one of several events taking place throughout the charity’s 25th anniversary year, celebrating its history, the people it has supported, and the staff, volunteers, supporters and partners who have made its work possible.
