Bank Holiday con in UK.

Yesterday was VE day many countries had a bank holiday. Tomorrow is ascension day again no holiday for us. In May there are four bank holidays in France plus bridge days, this is where for example a bank holiday such as May day falls on Thurs and a bridge day is given to join it to the weekend. Victory day 1st world war and 2nd world war are also given in many countries. The sting in the tail French productivity is above ours.

Newly elected councilllors

Anyone know when contact details - e-mail, 'phone, are going to be made public. The elections were a week ago now and we appear to have all been left in limbo.I checked Hounslow's website and only previously elected members were on it, some of them still with their previous wards as well. There are also a considerable number without photos - how difficult can it be? I know we're only the poor saps that bothered to turn out to vote but surely to God Hounslow could have got its act together a bit quicker than this? Not an auspicious start.................

Boston Manor Road cycle lane works

I have to agree with Guy that the works here have been done to a very high standard and it does look good. However, in view of the fact that it stops and starts and has made BMR much narrower I think the jury is out on whether or not it was such a good idea.

Watch for PRE AUTHORISATION charge at self servicepetrol pumps.

Its best not to use the self ser36vice credit card function at Supermarket petrol pumps. A new £99 pre authorisation has been introduced by some supermarkets for credit or debit card. One large high street bank has stopped its ordinary DEBIT cards being used in self service pumps. For full details just look on google. Its the number one search at the moment. (9/5/18 0635hrs). Solution? Go to kiosk to pay.

Bats in Brentford

Yesterday evening we were sitting in the garden and we were enthralled to watch at least three bats flitting overhead. This was in Avenue Road, only a couple of hundred yards north of the M4/A4. Yes, OK, we had had a couple of beers but these were definitely bats. I have no idea of the species - perhaps common pipistrelles?We used to see them regularly but this is the first time for several years. (Hedgehogs were also regular visitors but we haven't seen one of those for well over 20 years.) It seems that bats have suffered greatly in recent years from loss of habitat, light pollution etc.Has anyone recently seen bats (or hedgehogs) in Brentford?

LAYTON ROAD

I have been a resident of Layton Road since for over 9 years.  I am shocked to fall upon this announcement because it's the first I've heard of any plans to build yet another development directly opposite my home.The first thoughts that came to me as I read the headline, with eyes wide open like a rabbit in the spot light, were;Is Brentford attempting to house the whole of London?On a serious note though;Is there no communication between a Council and it’s constituents anymore?How can a single member be allowed to make a decision like that?Good lord, will it have a detrimental impact on the value of my property?I would have thought there would be some consultation with the people who will be directly impacted by such a development.9 years of surrounding development, living in an overwhelming dusty environment which has caused so many helth issues, dealing with the rubbish from the builders who decorate the road with discarded lunch wrappers, paying for a resident's parking permit only to find you can't park because of the latest new delevopement dwellers sitting in their vehicles waiting for the clock to strike 8 not forgetting the nursery visitors. Just when you think all the chaos is coming to a close, you get landed with yet another development and discover that your opinions as a constitient do not count.Deep breath!I’d be interested to see what other people who live in Brentford think about it?

Labour manifesto

Can anyone point me to the Labour manifesto for Hounslow for the upcoming local elections?I searched for "labour hounslow manifesto" but had no luck. On the first page was the Conservatives' manifesto:https://www.brentfordandisleworthconservatives.org.uk/manifesto-2018which looks reasonable.In the absence of any ideas from Labour I'll probably vote for the Cons.

Street Cleansing schedules

Polling Station

Just been to vote - hardly a rush on - however there is a tarmac ramp at the entrance for disabled access. Are Hounslow completely mad? Why haven't they got wooden, movable ramps that can be used over again? Assume that this tarmac will have to be dug up and then disposed of - what a waste of money, says it all really.

I would like to say a big thank you to Lynn Green for all her hard work during the last four years as a Councillor for IsleworthAlthough I am not a Labour supporter especially in a Borough as rotten to the core as Hounslow is she would have certainly got my vote today if she had not been so royally shafted by her so called comrades in favour of a nobody drafted in from Cranford who freely admitted she knew nothing about Isleworth

Has Labour washed its hands of the Isleworth Ward?

No Candidates to be seen, no canvassing going on Old Isleworth, haven’t seen any posters or boards about, no red troops on the ground, no one’s got a good word to say about them. just a few leaflets here & there.Do you think they are prepared to sacrifice this pain in the ar - e ward after 4yrs to regroup in their other more compliant enclaves.Or are they just plain complacent?

Could the Lib - Dem’s take Sth Isleworth?

Looking at the published lists of all party candidates & their CV’s for the Sth Isleworth Ward, plus the controversial actions taken by the Labour Group over the last few years here. I really do think with a concerted effort from the LD candidates with support from Twickenham Lib-Dem members they could definitely take this ward.With so much discontent here, it’s so so ripe for change.I have been a Labour Man all my life, but unfortunately their not what i’m about anymore.

Nuisance Stray Ginger Male Cat

I have reported a problem on this forum sometime ago regarding a stray ginger male cat, uncollared and un-neutered menacing our female as well as our neighbours cat.  This cat will run away from humans, but is extremely aggressive towards other cats.  We cannot now leave washing out to dry in the garden as he has now taken to spraying that as well which is absolutely disgusting.  He is also spraying the rest of our garden and continuously on our back garden door.  The smell is offensive and he is causing a nuisance.  I have now obtained pictures of this cat and can forward to anyone who can provide information on his owners should they exist or I can pass on to any charity who is willing to catch him. I have done what I can to keep this animal away from our home and we are now having to keep our cat indoors but I need assistance from our community.  Currently he spends a lot of time to the back of Westbury Place and Hamilton Road but is often in the street having wandered down from the New Road, Brook Road south area.

Park Road Allotments

Last year Northumberland Estates filed a planning application to build 127 homes on the Allotments at Park Road. Hounslow Planning Committee rejected the proposals for the development despite the Council’s planning officers recommending approval.Northumberland Estates have filed an appeal with the planning inspectorate. The Isleworth society has been granted Rule 6 status for the purposes of the hearing and will take the lead on opposing the application with the aid of barrister representation.Hounslow Liberal Democrats were collecting signatures for a petition opposing the development last weekend at a farmers and gardeners market in South Street, Isleworth.The Libdem petition calls on Hounslow Council to comply with its statutory obligation to provide adequate allotment plots in the borough and to this end, to investigate the feasibility of an application for compulsory hiring of the Park Road Allotment Gardens Isleworth, in accordance with the provisions of the Small Holdings and Allotments Act 1908.Charles Rees, a retired Barrister and Liberal Democrat candidate for Homefields Ward in Chiswick said “Hounslow Council have the power if they wish to exercise it under s.39 of the 1908 Act together with Schedule Part II of the 1908 Act, Provisions for Compulsory Hiring of Land by Councils. These parts of the 1908 Act are still extant. Hounslow Council is a competent authority to exercise these powers under the Act by virtue of being a borough council.
