5508 car spaces "wholly unacceptable" says  GLA

Now what for this ugly cement block between Brentford and the river?Why couldn't it be put underneath any new supermarket development on the Morrisons's site?   Some form of motor transport (or a team of porters) is needed to lug home the bulky weekly shop.

It is stranger than that. Guy indicated a few times that this parking block is primarily NOT for shoppers, but for local residents. And this raises a similar question - why is it not possible to build residential parking underneath residential buildings - like always is the case?As for the City Hall/GLA report, published 10 June, which states: ‘The proposed 508 car parking spaces are wholly unacceptable as they are likely to attract more car trips to Brentford High Street..." - this is very true and even funnier:no parking->no shoppers->no local trade->dead high street = Brentford so desirable by some(((.Unfortunately it is perhaps too late now - if construction of this block stops now - we will end up with another unfinished->derelict building. So typical for Brentford town centre(((

If LBH let it continue onwards and upwards it gets called in by the GLA. I bet Curran and his Brentford Cllr mates are talking to the GLA trying to persuade them to let the car park continue upwards.

Just had another look at computerised version of this C arpark again the angle is so misleading compared with the height of Heidelberg next door, it is now so much higher and l wonder just how big the flats to be built adjacent to it will be, also l would not like to live one end of the high street near the church and be expected to park a car if l owned one  at the other end in residents car park,or am l totally misunderstanding what it is there for.

These computerised and hand drawn artists impressions are done to deliberately mask or play down the scale and bulk of new proposals.  They always depict nice sunny days with green trees prominantly placed, happy couples holding hands and one or possibly two nice cars driving past.I'd like to see artists impressions that show what it looks like from street level in the middle of winter on a rainy day, with some KFC munching people and solid traffic on the roads.

You are right. It reminds me of car adverts. Clear open roads. Never raining as for a traffic jam? Whats that. Same with house advets as well.

How many remember the flats with underground parking off Ealing Road many years ago? Were those parking lots ever used for residents parking their cars? They were dark and dingy and as I seem to recall barricaded off. I was only a visitor so don't know what the history is but I do know that underground parking anywhere is not my choice for shopping.

The underground car parks on the Haverfield estate (off Ealing Road) were blocked off years ago because of anti-social behaviour.They were for residents' parking but cars were (I'm told) regularly vandalised and set on fire - not good when people live above them! Also I believe used as a rat run by criminals fleeing the cops.One of them is now the HQ for council enforcement, others used for storage, project offices, caretakers and some disused - plans being thought out.

I agree it’s a shame to have built it there but the answer I feel is one of football.With a bigger stadium there will be bigger crowds.

Too far away from the ground. Brentford FC has never had parking and over the last few years street side parking has reduced with the intro of permit parking. This is just an LBH and a Ballymore folly

Great shame that the new car park doesn’t offer 30 minutes of free parking.  It would encourage casual shoppers and be great for the few remained businesses in the high street.

Agree 30 mins would not be long enough to enter, park and walk out and then go do some shopping.
