Best candidate won. Simple as that. Irrespective of party colours.Tories fielded a week and inexperienced candidate against a half decent and genuine local candidate who has been a good MP.However a stronger Tory candidate may have been a closer call.

Fully agree with you. No clue why Tories picked such a poor candidate with no experience who wasnt even from the area and even didn't communicate well with us.

One good thing for Labour they now have more women MPs than men, and a lot of them are extremely capable. Hopefully the Momentum tribe won't be allowed to get their own way in the Leadership, and common sense will at last prevail. Their plan didn't work - time to consign it to the dustbin and come into the real world with the rest of us.

The leader of the Labour Party is elected by its 500,000 members and not by any 'Momentum tribe' as you call them. I'm sure a wide range of potential candidates will come forward once the selection process starts in January.

It's almost as if you don't believe that Momentum did a lot of 'member stuffing' to get 'their man' elected to the leadership position.At the time, it only cost £3 to join the Labour Party and qualify for a membership vote. In the broader scheme of things £1.5 million is not a lot to pay to get your man elected and drive forward a host of uncosted, madcap policies which, on their own, stand up to scrutiny but collectively, delivered by a politician with a charisma by-pass, had no chance of being accepted by the man in the street, as was proven.

"The leader of the Labour Party is elected by its 500,000 members and not by any 'Momentum tribe' as you call them."One big flaw in that is that the NEC is dominated by these fanatics and they want to perpetuate the Corbyn experiment - which patently has failed, they may despise Tony Blair and all he stood for - but he won three elections - something those crackpots will never do. These people don't want to win, that might mean they'll have to do some real work, better to sit in darkened rooms and plot, Alan Johnson nailed that the other night sitting next to Jon Lansman, they are Militant Mk2. The difference then was the party had a Leader that wasn't in thrall to them and took them on, and paved the way for electoral success. Momentum adherents telling people who didn't agree with them to 'F*ck off and joint the Tories' was smart wasn't it? Worked a treat that - look at what we got - morons.

On a personal note, it also means that quality constituency MPs like Frank Field were left with no option but to resign.I have met Frank (ex Hounslow councillor albeit many years ago) a few times though his work with The Cathedrals Fabric Commission.A real fighter for social justice and a man never afraid to stand-up and be counted when it came to fighting the corner for the disadvantaged in our society.Supported across the board (Cameron even appointed hom to a cross-party welfare reform group) but shafted for having the audacity to display independent thought by the local Momentum morons despite being one of Corbyn's nominators.

Great analogy on BBC R4 by a listener yesterday,Tony Blair, Hugely electable but insincere and a truth avoiderJeremy Corbyn, Unelectable but honest and what you see is what you get.Kind of sums up politics in democracies, Lie and mislead and you will go to the top.Honesty, and duty, gets you nowhere.

"I was the only one who didn't quality for an Irish passport!"You should qualify if you are married to an Irish Citizen.You would need to take out post nuptual Irish citizenship first though.
