Building award for Ballymore!!?

Poor  Brunel. He would be mortified and no doubt spinning in his grave.His works which have endured and meet functionality with aesthetic excellence and incomparable build quality are a rather perverse comparison to this building which carries none of the above qualities. It's a bog standard concrete and steel structure with cladding and nothing endearing and certainly not something that will last 200 years plus.But then this is an awards circuit that is funded by developers for developers, just another r bit of Ballymore's marketing budget which props up other entities for marketing purposes.Must think we were all born yesterday!

There has to be a severe paucity of talent in the architecture world if these monstrosities are being considered for an award.If that's the best they can do gawd help us.

How fitting really that this wins an award in the "Council of the Year" area. How low the bars must be set.

The whole awards thing has simply become a PR sham in almost every domain.It's sponsorship, panel selection and criteria is all fixed and like in the property game " A done deal' before the land sale ink is dry.Ruins credibility and has become rather crass.  Just an excuse for a junket or a raft of Press releases.

Indeed, this will up the profile of the development and help sell the flats to foreign investors in my opinion.I can't see how the design has any real merit or innovastion though, it looks like it was built from a massive Meccano set.
