Save the Syon Hill Farm 200 year old wall before developers knock it down!

Long before the Gillette Building was erected in the late 1930's, and long before the Great West Road was opened in the 1920's, there was a farm up there on the top of Syon Hill.Many of these old farms in Brentford and Isleworth had walls erected some 200 years ago..and samples can be seen around Osterley Park, at Wyke Green Farm on Windmill Lane(where Seccombes the builders merchants are now) and in Northumberland Avenue off Syon Lane...opposite the entrance to the Homebase Superstore.These walls are part of our Heritage and need to be protected from demolition.We don't want bulldozers driven by incomers (who may not be well informed) to accidently knock one down!  A campaign is underway I gather on the Northumberland Estate by a lady I met on Saturday. She had never heard about BrentfordTW8.com although she produces,I believe, a Community Newsletter for her area.Maybe Sarah can elaborate..as this is all in Felstead country!Pictures and map to follow.

Stray Dog Found (1st March)

A stray  dog was been collected this morning from a local vet practice. It was apparently found at or just outside Brentford FC. It will be kept by the Animal Warden Service for 7 days after which the transfer window will open.It is a male staffie cross, probably in its middle years. Lively enough so could still do a job in midfield and without either collar/tag or a microchip is potentially a free agent. Any enquiries to animalwarden@hounslow.gov.uk please.

Hounslow's Labour Group in Private Eye - yet again

What a bunch of pathetic, nasty people make up the majority Labour group of Hounslow Council. It appears that some of them have got the hump about reports on their individual performance, apparently "telling the truth about Labour councillors performance is an 'uncomradely' act". These figures appeared in the Chronicle in August 2016, so of course not wanting the electorate to know what they were, or weren't doing, there had to be a scapegoat. They have decided that Cllr. Gurpal Viridi is the guilty party on the basis of no evidence whatsoever, the chief whip - Shantanu Rajawat (who he?) who completed 13 cases in 2015-16 as opposed to Cllr. Virdi's 233, organised what the 'Eye' calls a 'kangaroo court'.This is the bit that is breathtaking in its gall, Cllr. Virdi was found guilty of "leaking potentially damaging documents to the media" and "having brought [the] Labour Group into disrepute".What? The appalling saga of Cllr. Curran's utterly reprehensible behaviour over the wheelie bin saga last year didn't do that? Cllr. Virdi it is noted has been a thorn in the side of the leadership for exposing attempts to corrupt the planning system among other things.How spiteful can you be? Cllr. Virdi cannot now stand in future elections for the party Labour and has been suspended from the party.They don't deserve him, God forbid anyone should try and shine a light in some murky council corners.

Thanks to everyone who has signed the petition to oppose the property developer’s plans which will close this supermarket for up to 2 years and build a development of 10 stories high dominating and totally overshadowing the local area, including St Paul’s School.Due to your opposition to their plans the Property Developer is now reconsidering its plans and amending their proposals to Hounslow Council.  We will await their new proposals but for now please continue to oppose the plans as currently proposed.

Corporate governance LBH

Dealing with the LBH budget meeting on Tuesday night Cllr Lambert says in his blog'Genghis Todd had his set-piece rant about Lampton 360 and Steve Curran had his set-piece retort. It reminded me of my misspent youth in interminable church services where the vicar reads out something from his book (to be fair, he probably knows it by heart) and the congregation respond in unison, saying the same words that they have been saying since 1549. I doubt even Genghis will last for another 500 years, but who knows.'Cllr Lambert knows full well as do his cabinet colleagues  that it's unacceptable to have a LBH senior officer reporting to himself on the performance of our recycling/ waste company or other Lampton company. Huge sums of public money are involved.Guy knows too that there has been no recent performance data on the Lampton empire and despite an item in the forward plan showing this data will be published in February it wasn't. It's easy for the leader to have fun at my expense at Council on this subject without addressing the underlying issue.I sent the following email to the chair of the LBH Audit Committee earlier this week which met on Thursday night. Cllr Lambert is a member of this committee. I understand he didn't  rebut my view provided at this meeting by my colleague Cllr Hearn 'Lampton  360 Ltd and its subsidiariesCorporate Governance concerns You will have heard me raise this at council twice and on both occasions received a derisory and unacceptable response from Cllr Curran.Mr B Walsh remains the managing director of Lampton entities despite being Head of REDE. This is a clear conflict, breaches advice from our corporate governance consultants, recommended good practice and indeed common sense. Please pursue and seek prompt remedial action.'John

St Lawrences Church

Can anyone tell me exactly what is happening to the above Church,Scaffolding has been erected for quite a long time now,yet there does not appear to be any persons working on the them! Are we to be unpleasantly surprised and find the Church dismantled overnight with Councillor Curran Hand in Glove with Bollymore etc nothing will surprise us!Just look at the Destruction of the once beautiful Old Church opposite Watermans plus the School that is the only piece of History that goes back to 1761 it's a bloody wreck!They have cut away the Windows It should never have been allowed to happen! I would ask our MP Ruth Cadbury to take a look at the "Mess" they have made of both buildings & what they intend to do to recify it!!

Cashless parking

Perhaps some bod at Hounslow council could explain what will happen when those of us who don't have a smart 'phone want to park our cars? When will these people get it into their thick skulls that the world and his wife are not necessarily online or own a 'smart' mobile 'phone? It cannot be beyond the wit of man or woman to have some sort of pre paid card that can be swiped at a parking machine.Maybe the member for 'community protection' could explain how people who haven't got all the latest gizmos are having their interests 'protected' when it comes to being able to park in L.B. Hounslow?

A good time to be an Elf

Quite staggering news from Northumberland with implications for Isleworth has emerged. The Duke of Northumberland is trying to get planning permission to build 120 odd homes on the Park Rd. allotment site, he says he needs the dough to do work on Syon House, which was pretty much what he's said every time he's wanted something. Like the hotel, exhibitions, garden centre etc. As all locals will know there are also worrying plans for a school for 1000 boys just up the road from the Duke's planned housing estate right on the Busch Corner/Twickenham Rd./Park Rd. junction. Because of Hounslow council's completely stupid decision to close Church St. that leaves only one way out - up to the junction which is already a nightmare.The Duke is getting a loan from Northumberland Council, which is in the middle of making a lot of cuts that will affect the peasantry, the loan is a cool £8.5M! This is for an "elfic" play village, well you would wouldn't you?The Duke and Duchess are estimated to be worth a very nice £365M, shouldn't that be helped to fund services rather then the other way around? Never mind elves - whoever has gone along with this - and might still here in Isleworth - is away with the fairies. Unless Hounslow have a magic wand, anymore development in an area with some of the worst traffic problems imaginable, let alone the loss of proper allotments spells disaster.

What a stupid and crass decision to threaten to get rid of the Lollipop patrols outside schools, how on earth can the council ask schools to think about paying when they are facing a massive squeeze on their budgets? Incidentally I have been told that the cost of the planters put in and paid for by Hounslow when Church St. was 'temporarily' closed, would have paid the salary for one Lollipop person for three years! Nice one!Have these people not heard of priorities, tough one, please a few bods in Church St versus children's safety,Hmmmmm. Suppose it depends on who your friends in high places are?

Affordable HomesVanessa often asks on posts on this forum what are affordable homes.After going through the process with 3 or 4 Developers/Builders using the government schemes and their own, which work out roughly the same .From a developers website as an example    Am I eligible for shared ownership?Because Shared Ownership schemes receive some government funding, there are a few general restrictions on who can buy through Shared Ownership:– Maximum household income levels are in place to ensure that properties are accessible to applicants who are unable to purchase on the open market:If the property you are applying for is within a London borough the maximum household income is set at £90,000. If the property you are applying for is outside of London the maximum household income is set at £80,000. There are no minimum income thresholds however we will need to check that you’ll be able to afford to purchase your home and that this will remain the case in the longterm. This is done by completing an affordability assessment with one of the independent financial advisors on our panel.This is one of the first step in applying for a shared ownership property. You will need to call them once you have seen a property that you are interested in, they will review your incomings and outgoings with you to ensure that you are financially eligible for the property.After going through the affordability assessment with the Government schemes and the developers own schemes the minimum works out to be Between 45K and 47K per household. This is for paying off your own mortgage for whatever share you have of the property and the rent and maintenance costs of the Company's share. Which can be between £600 to £850 monthly.So what chance does a single person around 25 to 30 earning 18 to 20k a year  get on the property ladder? Even if there are two of them they still don't meet the minimum requirement
